Buffs: Recruiting Looking Good
The Daily Camera reported that even though the Buffs are struggling mightily at 0-3, recruiting isn't going so badly for the Hawk. The article claims that many recruits are attracted by the prospect of immediate playing time when they arrive at CU.
I can't say that it's a great thing that players want to come here because the cupboard is bare, but it's exciting to see CU's name on the shortlist of some very impressive recruits. Rivals currently has CU ranked 48th, but that could change with a few big signings.
The Rivals.com list for CU commitments currently includes 7 three-star players, which is fairly decent. The following four-star players from the Rivals 250 also list at least "medium" interest in coming to CU: DE Apaiata Tuihalamaka, Malachi Lewis (who could play offense or defense), LB Blake Lawrence, Cedric Everson (an "athlete" from Detroit), Montbello WR Drew Davis (who has high interest in CU), Pennsylvania WR Toney Clemons, and OL Javario Burkes from Phoenix.
Ryan Miller, an OL from Columbine H.S. is a five-star prospect who has CU on his shortlist with Notre Dame. Rivals ranks him as the #16 prospect in the nation, and this would be a coup for Hawkins if he could get a commitment from Miller.
I don't feel so good about Drew Davis, who has said that he hasn't gotten the "big-school" offer he really wants (meaning a school like USC or Michigan). That doesn't bode well for us.
Hopefully CU can put together a decent finish to this season, and flash enough potential on offense to show these recruits that there could be a bright future for them at CU.
It's tough to recruit at CU these days, and unlike big-time programs in other states, blue-chip recruits don't grow on trees around here. The top 20 prospect list for the state of Colorado includes one five-star player (Miller), one four-star player (Davis), 7 three-star players (3 of whom have committed to CU), and then 11 two-star players. Compare the state of Colorado with, say Texas (5 five-stars, 28 four-stars). But still, high-school football in Colorado is getting bigger and better, and hopefully CU can capitalize on this by keeping kids in state ("building a wall around the state").
Good work by the Hawk so far though, and I'm inclined to be more patient about this season now.
